Grüner Veltliner

Coopers Creek "The Groover" Gisborne Grüner Veltliner 2010

Austria’s Grüner Veltliner made its debut in New Zealand two years ago, when we made a miniscule amount of the wine. For 2010 we hand harvested an increased quantity of 6 tonnes of fruit from Paul and Jenny Tietjen’s Kawatiri Vineyard in Gisborne on 29 March. The fruit was whole bunch pressed and then cool fermented. Post fermentation the wine was stabilised and bottled in early July.

Analysis: Alc 13.5% Acid 5.6g/L Res sugar 4.5 g/L pH 3.29

Tasting Notes Colour: At bottling the wine was very pale with light green tints. With time we expect that it will develop hints of pale gold. Bouquet: It’s hard to put a finger on descriptors for our Grüner Veltliner. It has the white pepper character we expected along with hints of ginger. This is backed by lees derived aromas and a strong thread of flinty minerality. Palate: A medium bodied wine with lovely texture and mouthfeel. It is precise and focused with a long linear finish.

Food Matches: Internationally regarded as one of the great food wines, Grüner Veltliner is perfect with seafood and salads. Some of us think it is an even better accompaniment to oysters than Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc!

Independent Reviewer’s Comment: “Floral and fleshy, it is a mouthfilling wine with dryish peachy flavours, fresh and strong, hints of pineapples and spices, gentle acidity and a well-rounded finish.” MC

Pinot Noir

Terra Sancta Estate Pinot Noir Rose 2012

Nothing looks better on a summer table than this wine. Gorgeous. A complete experience. With Champagne-like elegance, the perfume is freshly wild cut roses, the texture luxurious and the flavours remind you of picking strawberries from out under their straw beds. Unlike many Roses this is not a light red wine disguised in pink .. this is 100% Pinot Noir Rose made with care. Bright, memorable and elegant, this is a light and uplifting wine - one might almost say, virtuous.

Bright pink colour with depth, and youthful purple hues to the colour. The bouquet is soft and ethereal with aromas of red florals, strawberries and raspberries, delicately lifted by fresh fermentation esters, all softly interwoven.

Dry, elegant and with concentrated flavours of fresh raspberries and flowers, the palate features seamless, fine textures that bind the fruit with delicacy. Soft acidity complements the fruit core and presence, allowing the fruit to open out through the palate.

The finish is moderately sustained and lighter in expression. 100% Pinot Noir from the ‘Rewa’ vineyard in the Upper Wairau Valley, destemmed and given a 25 hour cold soak and fermented to 13.4% alc. and 5.5 g/L of residual sugar.

An elegant and harmonious rosé with delicacy to serve as an aperitif.

A dry style wine with medium weight and balanced acidity, showing a nice crisp, clean finish. It marries perfectly with fruit salad, chicken, white fish, salmon, strawberries and cream and cream brulee..

INVIVO Marlborough Sophie’s Rose

The fruit was hand harvested and transported to the winery’s cool store where the bins were chilled to 2-4oC. Once down to temperature the fruit was de-stemmed and lightly crushed into open fermenters. The must was kept cold and hand plunged twice daily for 72 hours and then pressed. The juice was then cold settled, racked and fermented using Sauvignon blanc yeasts.
